Ringtonius is a small iPhone app made by an independent developer and working musician in Southern California. It does one job well: it turns the sound you actually want into a ringtone, right on your phone, without uploading it anywhere.
The guides on this site exist because the same questions come up again and again. Why won't this song work? Where did Use as Ringtone go? Why does my tone stop after 30 seconds? Each guide answers one of those, starting with the free options already on your iPhone, and mentions Ringtonius only where it actually helps.
How we check these facts
The way iPhones handle ringtones changed in iOS 26, and many older articles still describe only GarageBand. So we keep every rule we cite in one place, with its source and the date we last checked it:
- Every rule comes from Apple's own support pages where Apple documents it, and from tested reporting where it doesn't yet.
- Rules are re-checked at least every 90 days, and the date on each guide changes when we update it.
- Steps are written from doing them on an iPhone, not from memory.
| Rule | What it is | Source | Last checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Longest iPhone ringtone | 30 seconds | support.apple.com | Nov 1, 2026 |
| iOS 26 "Use as Ringtone" | MP3 or M4A file, 30 s or shorter, stored on the iPhone | tomsguide.com | Nov 1, 2026 |
| Apple Music songs | Can't be used | support.apple.com | Nov 1, 2026 |
| iOS 18 and earlier | GarageBand → Share → Ringtone | support.apple.com | Nov 1, 2026 |
