Ringtone checker

Checks a file against the iPhone's ringtone rules. Runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Check a file

    What the checker looks at

An iPhone ringtone has to clear three bars. The checker tests each one and tells you what to change.

    • Length. 30 seconds or less. Anything longer has to be trimmed.
    • Format. On iOS 26, Use as Ringtone accepts MP3 and M4A files. Older iPhones need an M4R ringtone made in GarageBand or synced from a computer.
    • Copy protection. Apple Music downloads are protected and can't become ringtones at all.

    Questions

    Is my file uploaded?

No. The checker reads the file inside your browser to measure its length and type. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Why does length matter so much?

Longest iPhone ringtone: 30 seconds. iOS 26 refuses longer files in Use as Ringtone, and GarageBand offers to cut them short.

Can it tell if a song is from Apple Music?

Partly. Protected Apple Music files usually have an .m4p extension or will not play outside the Music app. If the checker cannot read a file at all, protection is the most likely reason.
