Quick answer: GarageBand is free and works on every iPhone, so if you make a ringtone once a year it’s fine. On iOS 26 you often don’t need it at all. Ringtonius is quicker when the sound is in a video, needs trimming to the right 30 seconds, or needs fades or a volume boost.

When GarageBand is the right choice
If you already know GarageBand, or you want to build a ringtone from scratch with loops and instruments, it’s excellent and free. Apple’s support pages document every step.
When you don’t need anything
A voice memo under 30 seconds on iOS 26 can go straight to Share › Use as Ringtone. No app needed.
When Ringtonius is quicker
Long songs where the good part is in the middle, sounds trapped inside videos, quiet recordings, and anyone who’d rather drag two handles than learn a music studio.
